High Quality Prekindergarten PGISD Family Engagement Plan 2024-2025

The mission of Pleasant Grove Independent School District is to ensure high levels of learning for all students. In accordance with House Bill 3 High Quality Prekindergarten guidelines, PGISD has created a High-Quality Prekindergarten Family Engagement Plan to promote partnership between our school, families, and community to ensure the successful outcomes for our prekindergarten learners.

Facilitate Family-to-Family Support

The PGISD plan will provide parents with opportunities to participate in district and campus initiatives, such as:

  • PTA/PTO (PG Connection)
  • Meet The Teacher Event
  • Read Aloud Opportunities
  • Margaret Fischer Davis Monthly parent newsletter
  • Family Night - Math Night & Literacy Night
  • Night of the Arts
  • Open House / Parent-Teacher conferences
  • Volunteers ● Kindergarten Adventure
  • Facility Tours upon request with swag/information bag
  • Annual Evaluation: Feedback from participants and staff

Establish a Network of Community Resources

PGISD in partnership with Community and Faith-Based organizations will establish resources that provide services to the students, in an effort to equip parents and caregivers in identifying and appreciating the developmental growth of their child. Some of the resources will be:

  • Junior League Shoes for the Soul
  • Harvest Texarkana Food Program
  • Shop With a Cop
  • Annual Evaluation: Assess the impact of community resources on family engagement

Increase Family Participation in Decision Making

  • PGISD encourages family participation in decision making. Their contributions are crucial to a well - rounded and well thought out plan that will facilitate support for all stakeholders and impact positive student achievement. Parents will be invited to participate and serve:
  • Campus and District wide Site-Based Decision Making Committees(SBDM)
  • School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
  • Regularly scheduled district and campus-level meetings
  • Title I Advisory Committee ● School-Parent Compact
  • Encourage participation in PTA and SBDM committees.
  • Partner with local organizations for access to educational resources.
  • Develop a resource guide for families.
  • Invite community organizations to school events.
  • Open dialogue between families (Facebook, SeeSaw, parent/teacher conferences)

Equip Families With Tools to Enhance and Extend Learning

PGISD will equip families with learning opportunities to enhance and extend learning by providing parents with monthly calendars with at home activities that are age and developmentally appropriate for the children and activities, such as:

  • Parent information meeting
  • CLI Engage family activities
  • Annual Evaluation: Assess the impact of resources on student learning.
  • Provide monthly newsletters
  • Parent/Teacher conferences
  • Family Night: Math Night, Literacy Night, Night of the Arts

Provide Ongoing Professional Development Opportunities For Educators

PGISD’s goal is to bring awareness of the Parental Involvement Program,ESSA/Federal requirements and guidelines with emphasis on the value and impact of a parent's contribution to school.

  • Staff development offered at administrator, faculty, and department meetings (CTM) Develop staff skills to support families to meet their learning goals

  • Support parent-child relationships in a way that values the culture and language of families and recognize how different cultures may influence family development

  • Ongoing: Track staff participation in professional development.
  • Annual Evaluation: Review the effectiveness of training and staff recognition.
  • Provide professional development on family engagement strategies.
  • Encourage regular positive contact with families.
  • Recognize staff excellence in family engagement

Evaluate Family Engagement Efforts and Use Evaluations for Continuous Improvement

Training, workshops, meetings, and parental involvement activities are followed with an evaluation which provides parents the opportunity to express their views on the value of the activity.

  • Use parent input/survey to provide valuable information in the planning, development and implementation of programs for the district
  • Review/revise Family Engagement Plan Annually (next review will be for the 25/26 school year)
  • Use results to refine strategies.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Adjust strategies as needed throughout the year.
